LittleBigPlanet: Out now in the UK

After a short delay due to an offending soundtrack, LittleBigPlanet is officially out now in the UK.  I had been wondering when exactly to post this, as across different markets, retailers in some instances have chosen to sell LittleBigPlanet early anyway.  So I’ve settled for the official (revised) release date in the UK, which is today: November 5th, 2008- Bonfire Night!

Now, I have had my copy of LittleBigPlanet on pre order with Amazon for quite some time.  Last week, I received a disturbing email from them:

Unfortunately, the release date for the item(s) listed below was changed by the supplier, and we
need to provide you with a new estimated delivery date based on the new release date:

“Little Big Planet (PS3)” [Video Game]
Estimated arrival date: 12/11/08 – 19/11/08

We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes.

As you can imagine, I’m not particularly impressed with this.  I was hoping that I’d be able to have a mess about on it when I go home for the weekend.  I’m just praying that Amazon are somehow mistaken and my copy will be there when I arrive home.  I mean, what kind of pre order arrives a week or two after release date?!

So, if you don’t see any LittleBigPlanet hands-on thoughts from me round here, you’ll know why.  I am 100% behind the game.  Other than that, I’d like to mention that this game should be a system seller and Christmas hit this year.  It comes quite highly recommended as well, so it’d probably be a good idea if you snagged a copy yourself.

Three Speech Title Round-Up

Three Speech Title Round-Up– It just goes to show what great games are going to be released on the PS3 in the next couple of months or so.  My favourites I’m looking forward to though?  Has to be Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, and BioShock.  Those are my dream three.  Right there.

Three Developers Explain LittleBigPlanet Level Design to a 7-Year-Old

Three Developers Explain LittleBigPlanet Level Design to a 7-Year-Old– Kotaku shows why LittleBigPlanet will open the PLAYSTATION brand to such a wide audience, and why the rest of the gaming industry should be afraid.  There’s also some neat level design tips for the rest of us!

Trophies: The Hunt Is On

(Note: I was originally going to call this post “Gentleman, start your engines” but due to equality issues and the phrase having nothing to do with trophies, it was scrapped.  That’s your dose of trivia for the day!)

Well, enough games are now out there that have trophy support.  First I had a ‘blast’ on Super Stardust HD, which was the first PS3 game to have trohpy functionality, and now I’m engrossed with PixelJunk Eden (need to complete those gardens!).  My next target will be another play-through of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, which I am really going to relish.

I suppose my future targets will be Warhawk and LittleBigPlanet, which I both like, really need to buy!  This is especially true for Warhawk, seen as it has had several free updates.  I’m one of these people who try to hold out on buying certain games till they come down in price!  Several games I want though are stubbornly remaining at quite a high price.

That’s besides the point though.  What I really want to say is good luck to all trophy hunters!  I’ll be collecting trophies myself, though not at the frentic pace of some of you.  I’ll probably mention something more about trophies a few months down the line.  Till then!

LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 release windows confirmed

LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 release windows confirmed– SCEE has confirmed that LittleBigPlanet and Killzone 2 are due for release for September this year, with Insomniac’s launch title sequel, Resistance 2, down for a November release.  I can’t wait for any of these titles, they’re all very compelling.  At least it gives me enough time to save up for them!

The Empire Strikes Back

Back when the PS3 launched, I practically screamed at Sony’s stupidity. Why price the damn thing out of the reach of most consumers? It meant that people like me, Joe Consumer, could not get a piece of the next-gen gaming action… at least not on the PS3 anyway. One year later, look how things have changed. I’m going to be bold and just say it- Sony has proved us all wrong. Sure, they may have had early poor performance with sales, but Sony has adapted to the market and fought back.

So, how has the situation improved? Well, Sony have steadily been reducing the price of the PS3 to more acceptable levels, (unfortunately) going so far as to remove PS2 compatibility to get the PS3 to be profitable. However, this cloud might have a silver lining in the form of potential PS2 compatibility via software emulation at some point in the future.

Also many gamers have complained that there just has not been a great selection of games. Having got a PS3 last Christmas, I would have to disagree. I would even go so far as to say that Sony got ‘the must-have game’ fairly early on in the form of Resistance: Fall of Man. I’m sorry, but it’s just amazing. Something bizarre has been happening though; I’ve noticed in discussions on the internet that a lot of Xbox 360 gamers have claimed that they have great games such as The Orange Box, Burnout Paradise and Assassin’s Creed which demonstrates why the Xbox 360 is the best- completely forgetting that such games are also on the PS3.

The PS3 has released notable exclusives such as: MotorStorm, Resistance: Fall of Man, Ratchet and Clank, Heavenly Sword, SingStar, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune etc. PS3 gamers also have a lot to look forward to with regards to exclusives: Gran Turismo 5, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Haze, Killzone 2, Resistance 2 etc etc etc! It’s time to crack open the champagne; 2008 and beyond is set to be an amazing time for PS3 owners.

Darth Vader and PS3

There’s been a notable flurry of welcoming PS3 news indicating that things are getting better. I’ll share a few that I’ve read about on PS3 Fanboy:

So it seems the PS3 is finally hitting its stride and may soon become the console of choice. From news reports and personal experience I know the PS3 is very popular in the UK, and also throughout Europe and Japan. The exception to the rule is in the USA. They sure love their Xbox 360.

Well, that just about wraps it up. I’ve said my piece, now it’s your turn. If you disagree with me- even better! Feel free to comment and I’ll reply as soon as I can.
